I write this post with a rather heavy heart. As most of you already know, yesterday two people were killed in Virginia.
Alison Parker and Adam Ward were employees of the Virginia television station WBDJ7. While life interviewing at a park, a former employee of the station opened fire on both Parker and Ward. His reasoning for this was because of discrimination against him.
I was hit hard by this news. It reminded me that life can end in an instant! Nothing is promised or guaranteed. A few days ago, on Parker’s public Facebook account, she told about how she was coming back to the station after some time off and would be the anchor on the Saturday broadcast. That part affected me the most. Little did she know, she would never get the chance to anchor again. We plan our lives as if death will never come, yet one day, the time will come for each of us.
Adam Ward will never get married, will not get another job opportunity, will never get to film another segment… all of this because someone took his life. Just like Parker, his time came and there was nothing either of them could do about it.
Because of the fall of man, sin has left us with punishment. That punishment is death. God has said that everyone will die. He also says that if you put your trust in him and ask Him to forgive you of your sin, you will go to heaven to live with Him forever. When you die, you will enter paradise and eternal joy. As a child of the King, death has no sting. There is no fear in death. Because we do not know the time and place death will appear, we cannot know exactly how to live. One thing we cannot do is live in fear. Living every day waiting, afraid of the day that death will come. The Bible says in Proverbs 27:1, “Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.”
Live life to the fullest! Remember that life is short and death is coming. Turn to Christ and ask Him to save you! Love life. Live today as if it were your last. As if you knew you would die today. Live with no regrets. You may never get another chance to tell someone you love them or to tell them how proud you are of them or to tell them what you have wanted to say for a long time, but never had the courage to do so. Say what is on your mind, do what you have always wanted to do, and most importantly, ask God to save your soul. It is only through Him that true peace can be found!
Let the lives of Alison Parker and Adam Ward show that life can end any minute.
